Manage sources and their permissions

Controlling who can add or manage sources

Workspace owners and admins can choose who is allowed to create and configure sources under Settings →  Security  → Create and manage sources. This controls the connection itself, not the content behind it. Someone can be allowed to add a Google Drive source without being able to query anything inside it.

How to add or remove a source

Add a source
  • Open Settings → Agent sources, then click + New source.
  • Each connection is listed separately, so two Asana accounts appear as two entries.
Remove a source
  • Click the connection, then the ⋮ menu → Remove connection. This permanently deletes all indexed content from that source.
  • For Files, Websites and Custom sources, remove a single entry with the three-dot menu → Remove source.

Setup and permission models of a source

Every agent source has two properties that shape how your team uses it.

1/ Setup method

How to connect the source.
OAuth
Click connect, sign in to the source, grant Slite access. No admin configuration in the source itself.
Requires configuration in the source
Before the Slite Agent can connect, an admin needs to add some configuration — typically installing an app, creating a service account, or configuring a delegation. The guide for each source walks through exactly what's needed.
No auth required
Content is either uploaded directly into the Slite Agent or is publicly accessible, so no external authentication is needed.
MCP
You'll be able to add new Model Context Protocol (MCP) sources using OAuth (including bringing your own OAuth client ID and secret) or static headers (such as an API key or custom Authorization headers).MCP connections can be shared to other members, or promoted for other teammates to connect their own accounts.  Read more on how to share MCP sources .

2/ Access models

Who can query the source once connected.
Shared
Slite workspace members can query the source without the need to have an account in the connected tool.
Workspace admins can control who can access it on Slite side.
Mirrored
The Slite Agent matches each member to their account in the connected tool by email. Members can only query content they already have access to in that tool. No matching email account = no results from that source.

Control the permissions of a source

This section does not apply to sources with Mirrored permissions.
For Shared sources, workspace admins can set who in Slite can query each part of the source.
To control permissions, open the source in the Agent Sources panel, then adjust access on each row:
  • Everyone at {workspace}
  • Specific users or user groups
The same three roles are available on every row:
  • Can access — can query the item.
  • Can manage — can query the item and change who else has access to it.
  • No access — cannot query the item.
Workspace admins always have access, even when a root node is restricted.
